Terms of service
Last updated August 8, 2026 · Footings is in active beta
These are the terms for using Footings. The product is in active beta. Plans are selectable, the limits attached to them are real, and a plan can now be paid for by card — but only if you choose to. Nothing is ever charged without you choosing it first. Choosing a plan without going through checkout records a preference and nothing else.
The service
Footings provides job costing, invoicing, purchasing, document capture and double-entry bookkeeping for construction companies. The Free plan is free permanently. Paid plans are charged only after you complete a checkout yourself.
Plans, limits and billing
- Nothing is ever charged without you choosing it first. A subscription begins only when you complete a checkout. If your company was using Footings before paid billing existed, it stays on early access until you choose otherwise, and we will email you at least 30 days before that changes.
- Prices and tax. Plan prices are in Canadian dollars per month, and GST/HST is added at checkout at the rate for your province. Your receipt is issued by Stripe and shows the tax separately, so it can be claimed as an input tax credit.
- How you pay. Card payments are taken by Stripe on Stripe's own pages. Footings never sees or stores your card number. You can change your card, see your receipts, switch plans or cancel at any time from Manage billing in Team & settings.
- Cancelling. Cancel whenever you like. You keep the plan you paid for until the end of the period you have already paid, then the company moves to Free. We do not pro-rate a partial month, and nothing you created is deleted, hidden or locked.
- A failed payment does not lock you out. If a card fails we retry over a period of weeks and email you; your plan is not withdrawn while that is happening. Only if payment ultimately fails does the company move to Free — again with nothing deleted.
- Price changes are notified at least 30 days in advance, and you can cancel before one takes effect.
- Plan limits are real and apply to creating new records only. On any plan, including Free and including after moving down a plan, you can always send the invoices you already have, record payment against them, download them, and export everything.
- Moving down a plan is never refused and never deletes anything. Records above a limit stay visible, readable and exportable; the limit applies to the next thing you create.
- Going over a limit never generates a charge. Hitting a limit stops the action and asks you.
- New accounts receive 14 days on the Business plan at no cost and without a card. When it ends the company moves to whichever plan it selected, and nothing created during the trial is removed.
Your account and your data
- You're responsible for what your team enters and for keeping your sign-in credentials safe.
- The records you create belong to your company. You can export them at any time.
- You give us the limited right to store and process that data to run the service — nothing more.
Acceptable use
Don't attempt to access another company's data, probe or overload the service, or use it for anything unlawful. We may suspend accounts that do.
Beta status, warranty and liability
- Footings is provided as is, without warranty of any kind. It is under active development and features may change.
- Footings is bookkeeping software, not an accountant, bookkeeper or tax advisor. Numbers it produces (including GST/PST worksheets and T5018 summaries) should be reviewed by your accounting professional before filing.
- To the maximum extent permitted by law, our liability for any claim related to the service is limited to the amount you paid for it in the past 12 months — which, on the Free plan, is zero.
Ending the beta or the service
If we ever discontinue the service we'll provide at least 60 days' notice and time to export. Today's export is your financial records to Excel (jobs, invoices, bills, expenses, payments, books); a complete workspace export including stored documents is on the roadmap and will exist before any discontinuation notice could be given.
Who you are contracting with
Footings is operated by a company incorporated in British Columbia, Canada, and your agreement for the service is with that company. Footings is free during the beta: there is no charge for the service and no payment details are collected. The operating company will be named here before any paid plan is offered, so you will always know who you are paying before you pay anyone.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Canada, with British Columbia as the governing provincial law and venue.
